Bengaluru Police intensify crackdown on drugs, arrests 67 in September

In a move against drug-related crimes, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand announced a stringent crackdown on drug peddling and possession, emphasising a zero-tolerance policy. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to combat the growing drug problem in the city.
In September alone, the Bengaluru Police registered 49 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, leading to the arrest of 67 individuals, including three foreign nationals. The police conducted daily raids across the city, with a focus on disrupting drug supply chains.
During this month-long operation, authorities seized a significant quantity of drugs, including 170 kilograms and 689 grams of marijuana, 1 kilogram and 984 grams of opium, 13 grams of cocaine, 372 grams of MDMA, 998 ecstasy tablets, and 1,089 LSD strips.
As part of the crackdown, the police have also initiated deportation proceedings for foreign nationals involved in drug trafficking. Until now, in 2024, 80 individuals have been deported to their respective countries. Commissioner Dayanand reiterated the importance of targeting not just the users but also the root of the drug supply chain, emphasising a long-term strategy to mitigate the drug crisis in Bengaluru.
“Every day, we are conducting raids across the city. We are determined to trace the root of the drug supply chain,” he said.
